Dangkou Ancient Town, initially named Dingshe, traces its beginnings to the Eastern Han Dynasty, believed to be the ancestral home of Ding Lan, a figure revered for his profound filial piety. The town’s strategic position at the entrance of the Er'zhen Shallow Lake was instrumental in its early expansion. During the Ming Dynasty, the Hua family, guided by ancestor Hua Zhengu, established their presence in Dangkou. Hua Zhengu, a scholar who explored Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism, significantly bolstered the local economy and formulated a distinctive family educational philosophy documented in his 'Lvde Ji' (Collection of Thoughts).

While the ancient town itself is always open, exhibition halls generally operate from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, though they may close earlier during winter. Dangkou Ancient Town is situated in Ehu Town, Xishan District, Wuxi City, Jiangsu Province, approximately 25 kilometers southeast of Wuxi city center. Entry to the ancient town is complimentary. However, certain internal exhibition halls and attractions may require a separate fee. Boat excursions are available, with electric boats priced at 30 RMB for a one-way journey and sculling boats at 35 RMB.

To reach Dangkou Ancient Town from Wuxi train station, you can board Bus No. 708. From Wuxi long-distance bus station, Bus No. 711 is an option. Other bus routes, such as 712, 721, and 729, also serve the vicinity. If traveling by car, convenient parking facilities are provided. For those arriving from Wuxi East Station, take Metro Line 2 and then transfer to a bus.
