Control of the town then passed through various Italian lordships, including Vicenza, Padua, the Scaligeri of Verona, and the Visconti of Milan.

In the early 15th century, Bassano was claimed by the Venetians, beginning a period of flourishing growth as a dependency of the Venetian Republic from 1405 to 1796. This era saw the town adorned with numerous grand palaces and sacred churches, and it evolved into a significant hub for commerce and culture, particularly recognized for its silk, ceramics, and wool production. ## Conflicts and a Change of Name The 18th century ushered in French rule under Napoleon, who resided in Bassano del Grappa for several months. Following Napoleon's decline, it became a part of the Austrian-controlled Kingdom of Lombardy–Venetia before joining the unified Kingdom of Italy in 1866. Originally known as Bassano Veneto, the town's name was officially altered to Bassano del Grappa in 1928. This renaming honored the many soldiers who perished during the fierce engagements on the nearby Monte Grappa massif in World War I. The town also played a role in World War II, enduring damage and witnessing acts of brave resistance.

A visit from May through June or mid-September through October brings mild to warm temperatures and fewer crowds. July and August are generally warmer and more frequented. Winter months can be veiled in fog, yet clear days reveal striking views of the snow-dusted Monte Grappa from the Ponte Vecchio. From mid-November to January 6th, the main squares host local Christmas markets.
